چکیده

In a continuation of a search for biologically active molecules from marine organisms (Venkateswarlu et al., 1999) we investigated the sponge Agelas ceylonica belonging to the family Agelasidae. The sponge was collected at a depth of 30 f by skin diving near the Mandapam coast (N 173, E 833) India, during October 1997. A voucher specimen (IIC } 338) has been deposited at the museum of National Institute of Oceanography, Goa, India.

The marine sponge Agelas citrina as a source of the new pyrrole–imidazole alkaloids citrinamines A–D and N-methylagelongine

The chemical investigation of the Caribbean sponge Agelas citrina revealed four new pyrrole-imidazole alkaloids (PIAs), the citrinamines A-D (1-4) and the bromopyrrole alkaloid N-methylagelongine (5). All citrinamines are dimers of hymenidin (6) which was also isolated from this sponge as the major metabolite. Citrinamines A (1) and B (2) are derivatives of the PIA dimer mauritiamine (7), where...

Bromosceptrin, an alkaloid from the marine sponge Agelas conifera.

Six dimeric bromopyrrole alkaloids (1-6) were isolated from a Florida Keys specimen of Agelas conifera. One of the constituents was identified as a new bromopyrrole metabolite, bromosceptrin (1). The structure of 1 was established from MS spectrometry and 1D and 2D NMR spectrocopy.

New cytotoxic cyclic peroxide acids from Plakortis sp. marine sponge.

Bioassay-guided fractionation of the extract of Jamaican marine sponge Plakortis sp. followed by preparative TLC and HPLC yielded several known methyl ester cyclic peroxides (1a, 2a, 3a, 4, 5), known plakortides (6,7), known bicyclic lactone (8) and new cyclic peroxide acids (1b, 2b, 3b). The chemical structures were elucidated by extensive interpretation of their spectroscopic data. These natu...

Bromoageliferin and dibromoageliferin, secondary metabolites from the marine sponge Agelas conifera, inhibit voltage-operated, but not store-operated calcium entry in PC12 cells.

Two alkaloids isolated from the marine sponge Agelas conifera were tested for interactions with cellular calcium homeostasis. Bromoageliferin and dibromoageliferin reduced voltage-dependent calcium entry in PC12 cells as measured with Fura II as calcium indicator. The half maximal concentration of both alkaloids to reduce voltage-dependent calcium entry was only slightly different: bromoagelife...
